5 Things To Make People Take You Seriously

If no one in your business takes you seriously, then how will you succeed?

Now I have a question for you, do you know how people can take you and your business more seriously? When you’re first starting up, it can be difficult for people to start taking your business seriously. Whether it’s competitors, customers or even employees, you need to ensure that you put your business at the forefront of priorities.

We’re going to be giving you five tips on how to make people take you more seriously.

Be confident

Whilst some of us are naturally confident, most of us have to work at it. confidence is going to be one of your greatest assets as a business owner because it shows to others that you take yourself and your business seriously and believe in your product or service.

You should try to be more assertive in everyday situations, practice good posture and refuse to be intimidated by the normal stresses of work. Don’t worry practice makes perfect, but if you’re not confident in yourself and your business, then why should others be?

Stay quiet until you have something to contribute

Sometimes it can be better just staying quiet and listening to others until you have something to contribute. You don’t want to slip up and say something foolish and inappropriate because it can almost instantly change people’s perspective about you and make them take you less seriously.

That means that when you do have something valuable to add, you able to gain interest, hold onto it and ultimately make people take you more seriously because you know exactly what you’re talking about.

Pay attention to your body language

Your body language can say a lot about you, a lot more than you think. Body language is just as important as exhibiting confidence, it makes you seem more thoughtful, more put together and more experienced in the professional world.

You should try and stand or sit straight and make sure that when you’re talking to people, you’re making eye contact. There’s nothing worse than when you’re talking to someone and constantly looking elsewhere, it looks as though you’re not interested!

Prepare more than you think you need to

There’s nothing wrong with over-preparing. Whether it’s a meeting or a pitch to investors, you should always ensure that you over prepare so that you’re much more in tune with what’s going to be discussed. This could mean that you practice your presentation a few more times, or overlook topics that may crop up, anything that can make it easier for you and impress others.

Attending a meeting overprepared rather than under-prepared is much more beneficial. Never show up under-prepared

Arrive early

We’re not saying arrive at your meeting an hour early, but you should definitely try and give yourself an extra few minutes to get in and settled. This doesn’t just apply for meetings, this could be interviews, lunches, company functions etc.

Being early on a consistent basis will make others take notice and this works vice versa with turning up late, but instead of people’s respect increasing, it’ll decrease and relatively fast if you make a habit of it.
