How To Stick To A Marketing/Content Calendar

Sticking to things when your running a business can be nearly impossible, things just pop up out of nowhere that need to be done and it can really get us behind on our content.

But don’t worry because there’s a solution.

You need to create a content calendar and stick to it.

Having a content calendar lets you plan and make sure that you’re sending the right message to the right audience, whether it’s through Twitter, Facebook, blog etc.

Firstly you might want to have a bit of a brainstorming session and think about blogs, tweets, Facebook posts etc. which you may want to cover and put it in your content calendar, ideally sticking to a theme.

This will help you stay focused and help simplify your content creation process, which means you spend less time staring at a blank space and wondering what you’re going to be sharing throughout the week.

Next, you might want to create a content template. We can’t explain how helpful this can be in sticking to and organising your content calendar, it makes everything soooo much easier.

For example, if you’re on a weekly schedule, you could have the working week, Monday to Friday and underneath an explanation of what content should be going out. If on Monday and Friday you need a blog out, have underneath Monday and Friday ‘blog’

Tuesday you might need to get your video out, if so do the same again, underneath Tuesday put ‘video’.

This generic template lets you know exactly what needs to go out on each day and pair that with your brainstorming of content, then you should know what blog, video or podcast is going out on each day.

When you have those brain waves and an idea pops up for content, you should try and capture them right away rather than let them disappear and then sit there wondering what it was.

Create a document and place a running list of ideas within it. There’s nothing worse than when the content starts to become stale and you’re running out of ideas. You want to try and stay ahead of schedule as much as possible.

You have to stick to your content calendar. It makes posting content, whether it’s on social media or on your website so much easier than it should be because you already know what you’re doing!
