Barings’ 180,000 sq ft Landmark, St Peter’s Square, Manchester office development has been awarded the inaugural ‘Regional’s Chair’s Award for Constructability’ by the Institute of Civil Engineers at the ICE North West Awards 2019.
The prestigious awards recognise excellence and imaginative concepts in civil engineering practice across the North West. Principal contractor on Landmark, Bowmer + Kirkland, received the award in recognition of the high-quality project management and innovative solutions it has implemented to overcome complex methodological and logistical challenges during the double storey basement construction.
Landmark is currently under construction at St Peter’s Square in Manchester City Centre and when completed in Q3 2019, will offer 14 floors of BREEAM Excellent, next-generation office space above two basement levels. The building is being constructed with an offset core, enabling occupiers to benefit from large virtually column-free floorplates to provide maximum flexibility.
Ian Mayhew, Managing Director at Barings Real Estate, said: “We are delighted that Bowmer & Kirkland’s work at Landmark has been acknowledged with this award. After spending 65 weeks on demolition and the basement stages alone, it is fantastic to see the building really taking shape. To have secured an award for the construction before it has even completed is an excellent result for the whole team.”
Paul Neilson, Senior Project Manager at Bowmer + Kirkland, said; “We are very pleased to receive an award that recognises a special project where the whole project team worked together for the benefit of everyone. The collaboration between B+K, Curtin’s (Permanent works engineer), Andun (Temporary works engineer) and Mayo Civils in the planning and sequencing of the work to create a basement construction scheme that was buildable, efficient and innovative was exemplar. It is a credit to the whole team”.
