Ad Of The Month November: Kevin The Carrot And The Wicked Parsnip

Welcome back to the ad of the month, where each month we’ll bring to you what we think, in our opinion, is the ad of the month for November. If you haven’t seen our last ad of the month, you can check it out here.

We’re getting to that time of the year, where there’s a lot of companies bringing out ads to try and steal the attention of millions of people, it’s Christmas ad time.

At Passport 2 Success, we’ve been looking through a number of ads trying to find one that deserves our ad of the month and after examining a huge number of good ads, we found the one that fully deserves our ad of the month.

This month’s winner is Aldi’s Kevin the Carrot and the Wicked Parsnip.

What they’ve managed to do is put a humorous spin at a time when ads usually try and pull at your heartstrings and create a nostalgic feeling. The plot is that the Wicked Parsnip has kidnapped Kevin’s family and he then has to rescue them.

You can see the advert here:

As you can see from the ad, the way in which Aldi have managed to create quite a toned-down humour so prominent in a Christmas advert shows what a great ad it is. You understand the storyline instantly and want Kevin to save his family, with humour, both verbal and visual, being shown throughout.

This ad has been such a success that Aldi introduced a Kevin the Carrot and Wicked Parsnip plushie which sold-out within hours of them been stocked instore, showing how successful their Christmas campaign is as people are in a hurry to purchase their plushies.

It really is a great ad that shows you don’t always have to be nostalgic and emotional to create a good Christmas ad, well done Aldi!
